Taking care of the deceased

Our transport team will take care of
the remains, wherever they may be, in accordance with the best practices in the industry.

At Azur Funeral Services, our team of transporters ensures that the deceased is handled with respect and dignity. We provide secure transportation and professional management at every step. Our qualified transporters follow strict procedures to ensure a calm and respectful process that aligns with the family’s wishes.

When the deceased arrives at the crematorium, the transporter places them in a cremation container selected by the family. An identification label is then attached to ensure strict tracking. The body is kept at a temperature of 4°C until the cremation takes place. With Azur Funeral Services, every step is carried out with care and attention to honor the memory of the deceased and support the family with peace of mind.

Cremation

Our team of cremation technicians
will cremate the body
in full compliance with current standards and laws.

At Azur Funeral Services, every step of the cremation process is carried out with precision and respect. The cremation technician first verifies the identity of the deceased to ensure it matches the provided documentation. Once prepared, the body is placed in a casket or cremation container, then introduced into a furnace heated to 1200°C. After cremation, bone fragments remain, known as cremated remains.

These fragments are cooled and then pulverized into a fine powder, forming the ashes. The ashes are carefully placed in the urn chosen by the family. An identification token inside the urn, along with a cremation certificate, ensures complete traceability. This process combines professionalism and dignity to honor the memory of the deceased.

Return of ashes

The ashes are delivered and handed over personally to your home by an employee of **Azur Funeral Services**.

After the cremation, an appointment will be arranged for the delivery of the ashes, in line with your needs and preferences. A representative from Azur Funeral Services will come to your home to hand over the urn containing the ashes, along with the required legal documentation. This discreet and personalized service is designed to ease your responsibilities during these sensitive moments.

If you prefer, it is also possible to collect the urn directly from our crematorium. We make every effort to ensure a professional and respectful handling, meeting your expectations. With Azur Funeral Services, you receive compassionate and attentive support to honor the memory of your loved ones with peace of mind.

The cremation process:
Explanations and answers to your questions.

In Quebec, cremation, along with burial, is one of the most commonly used methods for the disposition of a deceased body.

Before incineration

When the deceased arrives at the crematorium, the transporter places them in a cremation container chosen by the family. An identification label is attached to the container. The body is then stored at 4°C until the time of cremation. In preparation for the incineration, the cremation technician verifies that the documents authorizing the cremation have been signed by the deceased’s family. The technician must also ensure that the death certificate has been signed by the doctor or coroner.

First, the cremation technician will ensure that the correct body is being handled. Once everything is in place, the incineration process will begin. Cremation is a process in which the body is reduced to ashes at high temperatures. The body is placed in a casket or cremation container, which is then inserted into a cremation furnace preheated to 1200 degrees Celsius. After cremation, bone fragments (cremated remains) remain. Once cooled, they are pulverized into a fine powder, forming the ashes. These remains are placed in the funeral urn purchased by the family. An identification token inside the urn and a cremation certificate ensure the identification of the deceased at all times.

Following the cremation, an appointment will be scheduled for the delivery of the ashes. A representative from Azur Funeral Services Cremation will come to your home to hand over the urn containing the ashes, along with the required legal documentation. Alternatively, you can choose to collect the ashes directly from our crematorium.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding cremation, please feel free to contact us.

Is it possible to attend the cremation?

It is indeed possible for loved ones to attend the cremation under certain conditions.

Cremation offers an economical, environmentally respectful, and flexible solution for funeral arrangements, allowing for a personalized tribute and simplified management of the ashes.

You can choose to bury your urn in the ground of a cemetery. In this case, a bronze plaque or monument can be used to mark the location.

Columbariums, both indoor and outdoor, are also available in several cemeteries, places of worship, or funeral homes. These are spaces made up of compartments (niches) designed for urns.

Cremation offers several options for the disposition of ashes. In addition to burial in the ground or in a niche, the ashes can be kept by a family member or placed in another location chosen by the deceased.

It is possible to have your ashes scattered in a meaningful location, as long as this ritual is permitted by local authorities. However, it is advisable to discuss this option with your loved ones, as they may find your decision too difficult and emotional. Additionally, they might prefer having a fixed place to visit in your memory.

Of course! Funeral urns come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, making it easy to keep your loved one’s urn at home if you prefer. If the deceased person, or you, have not chosen a burial location and would like time to reflect on it, it is entirely possible to keep the urn in the meantime.

Services Funéraires Azur assists you in obtaining your $2,500 reimbursement from the Régie des rentes du Québec (RRQ) by reporting the death to the Director of Civil Status* and promptly issuing your receipt for the funeral expenses paid.
